Is your Facebook account REALLY safe? How to find out who has been spying on you

Thankfully, Facebook provides a privacy-focused feature on its social network to help users work out whether you’ve correctly logged out of every device that you’ve ever used to access Facebook. The option also lets you see exactly where the devices logged into your account are located – so you’ll be able to spot if anything has gone walkabout behind your back.

It can also tell you the brand of the device, so you’re able to work out whether it’s yours or not. Other statistics include the type of the web browser and the date and last time that the account was accessed. Thankfully, it’s not just statistics. If something doesn’t look quiet right – you don’t recognise the brand of a device that is regularly accessing your Facebook, or the web browser logged into your account isn’t one that you’ve ever used on one of your devices – Facebook lets you logout of your session with a simple click or two.

If you’d like to like to check your Facebook account logins, you’ll find instructions to make sure nobody is snooping on your chats below –

Check if someone is using your Facebook account on smartphone

First up, you’ll need to open up the Facebook app, or – if you don’t have it – you’ll need to head to the App Store, download the Facebook app, and then open it up.

Tap on the three horizontal bars in the lower right-hand corner of the screen to load-up a comprehensive list of options. Scroll until you see Settings then tap on Security > Security And Login. You’re looking for the section marked Where You’re Logged In.

Then tap on the See All option to expand the list to see all of the devices that are currently logged in with your Facebook credentials.

As mentioned above, you’ll be able to see the time and date that each login occurred, as well as the type of device and its last known location.

If one of these looks a little suspicious, simply tap on the three vertically-aligned dots on the right-side of each session and log out, or report it as not being you.

You’ll also be given the option to Log Out Of All Sessions.

Check if someone is using your Facebook account on a computer

Launch your web browser of choice, then log into Facebook. Next, you’ll need to click the drop down in the top banner of the News Feed and select Settings.

Same as above, you’ll need to head to Settings > Security and Login (which will be one of the options on the left-hand side of the screen. Finally, look under the Where You’re Logged In header to find a list of all the devices currently using your Facebook account. Click See All to see all the devices.

As before, clicking on the three dots on the right of each of the listed sessions will let you report it as suspicious, or let you logout of the device remotely.

If you’re concerned with multiple sessions – or worried that your account password has been compromised, the nuclear option is to hit the Log Out Of All Sessions button.

This will let you change your password, safe in the knowledge that nobody can be using your social network.
