Coronavirus horror: Chinese officials ‘round up and execute’ dogs against national advice

Sad footage has emerged of a number of bloodied dogs who appear to be dead in the back of a truck. The footage, shared by Nanchong Missing Animal Aid Group is believed to be of dogs who belonged to the families in the Qianqiubang villages.

The World Health Organization has said there is no evidence to suggest the virus is being transmitted to pets.

Nonetheless, concerns have still been circulating in China over whether pets can transmit the disease.

Fears over pets spreading the virus circulated last month after a Chinese health expert claimed animals needed to be quarantined.

Community officers the southwestern Sichuan Province in China reportedly knocked on doors and ordered residents to give up their pets before slaughtering them.

The video shared by the Nanchong Missing Animal Aid Group reportedly shows dogs slaughtered by the officers.

In another video, shared by an animal activist, footage emerged of one officer is seen wearing a face mask and touching lifeless dog.

The activist condemned the video on Weibo saying: “Stop slaughtering pets in the midst of the epidemic.

“Enforce law in a civilised way.”

“They only cause more conflicts in society.”

It comes as last month a village in Hebei told families to “deal with” their pets within five days or else officials will “handle” them, the MailOnline reports.

In other news, Ukraine protesters have clashed with riot police over fears a busload of people evacuated from Hubei could pass the deadly disease onto them.

Locals in the village of Novi Sanzhary in central Ukraine as the blocked roads using burning tyres and smashed the windows of at least two coaches carrying people to a sanatorium to be quarantined.

Photos of the violent demonstrations showed rocks being thrown towards police vans and injured protesters being assisted.

Police officers were also left lying wounded on the ground.

People living in the village feared they could become infected despite the authorities repeatedly insisting there was no danger and a special appeal from President Volodymyr Zelenskiy for calm.

Ukraine has no confirmed cases of the virus.

The day-long stand-off which continued into the night.

It has been reported that concern locals have blocked a bridge leading to the sanatorium where the evacuees will be held for at least two weeks.

Officers were periodically shouted at with cries of “shame on you” as the town waited for the evacuees to arrive.

One Ukrainian woman refused to be evacuated at the last minute because she was not allowed by the Chinese authorities to take her dog, a Ukrainian embassy statement said.
