Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, reveals 'terrifying' experience as new mum to George

Kate recently opened up about her experience as a new mum, which is far from the ordinary when you’re a member of the Royal Family. Now the Duchess of Cambridge has revealed how she really felt in her first appearance outside St Mary’s Hospital as the public flooded in from near and far to see the royal baby.

At 4.24pm on 22nd July 2013 at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, Prince George was born.

As the first child of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge the young Prince is third in line to the throne, and news of his birth was celebrated the world over.

This of course, generated a great deal of pressure for the young royal couple William and Kate.

Now, Kate Middleton has opened up about how ‘terrifying’ it was to face the public so soon after giving birth.

Speaking on the podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby, she was asked by author Giovanna Fletcher what it was like to attend a photo-call so soon after giving birth for the very first time.

The Duchess was quick to uncover her real feelings about making such a public appearance so soon after becoming a mother for the first time.

The duchess said it was “slightly terrifying, slightly terrifying,” adding, “I’m not going to lie.”

Despite the nerves, the Duchess was quick to tell royalists how thankful she was for the public support.

“So there were all sorts of mixed emotions.”

Kate also admitted it took her and William some time to adjust to parenting.

She said: “It wasn’t that quiet in our household.

“William was like ‘Oh my gosh is this what parenting is going to be like?’

“It took us a bit of time to get ourselves settled and going again but that’s the beauty, I suppose of having a new-born baby.

“You are pulled to your toughest and most unknown places that you hadn’t necessarily even thought about before.”

Kate also took the opportunity to praise her own parents for her upbringing.

She said: “I had a very happy childhood.

“It was great fun – I’m very lucky, I’ve come from a very strong family – my parents were hugely dedicated to us – my siblings.

“I really appreciate now as a parent how much they sacrificed for us.

“They would come to every sports match – I was very keen on sport – they came to every sports match, they’d be the ones on the side-line shouting, and we’d always have our family holidays together.

“But I think the things that really resonate with me most are the simple things and actually I see that now with my own children, life now is so busy, so distracting and actually sometimes the simple things like watching a fire on a really rainy day provides such enjoyment.”
