The FLOTUS’ position as an anti-bullying advocate has, in the president’s previous addresses, been overlooked. This time round, however, her Be Best initiative was honoured by Trump as he commended her hard and successful work in attempting to promote awareness for youth well-being.
In May 2018, Melania launched the initiative which also advocates against cyber-bullying and drug use.
Of the campaign, she said: “I feel strongly that as adults, we can and should be best at educating our children about the importance of a healthy and balanced life.”
The initiative was expanded a year later, being promoted in 15 states and nine countries.
It focused on drug abuse in children of all ages – not just those born dependent on opioids and other addictive substances.
Other focus points for the president during his speech included improvements on education, infrastructure, poverty and housing.
Several guests members attended, including one young girl who was awarded an educative scholarship to study at a school of her choice.
It came after Trump criticised the current situation of state schools and how congress must work to rectify the problem.
Trump’s snub of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s handshake stole the spotlight of the night.

Another said: “She doesn’t deserve any respect from our president.”
A separate was made up by the action, and wrote: “Just saw you snub STUTTERING PELOSI!!
“She went for handshake and she got the back of your head!
“Love you President Trump!”
Despite this, many were quick to denounce the move.
One user said: “This ‘man’ is beyond despicable.
“Also, he has a wicked lisp and nasal, slow, heavy breathing cadence going on.”
Another: “You’re a real piece of “work” for snubbing a handshake from Madam Speaker…you childish punk.”
