Kate Middleton must always do this when departing a plane – but why?

The Duchess of Cambridge must abide by some strict etiquette rules while on her travels, including one particular rule she must follow when departing a plane.

Female members of the Royal Family must keep their chin parrallel to the floor of the stairs as they leave the plane.

The etiquette rules mean the person not only has good posture but also appears engaged with what is in front of them.

While they hold their chin up they can also hold onto the rail as they descend to sturdy themselves.

Myka Meier, founder of Beaumont Etiquette, told The Sun: “Holding your chin parallel helps maintain posture while sitting, standing, walking and descending stairs.

“Sometimes you will see The Duke of Cambridge extending a hand backwards while walking down stairs for The Duchess of Cambridge to illustrate the care he is taking while descending stairs by her side.”

While there are many royal rules Kate must follow during overseas visits, she has also gained a vast array of travel tips – some of which she has learned from The Queen herself.

One travel tip Kate learned from Her Majesty was a handy way to beat strong winds when departing a plane.

Wind can blow up the skirts of the Royal Family women, so to avoid this they often choose to have weights sewn into the skirt hem.

This nifty travel tip is said to have come from the Queen, who uses a couple of circular lead curtain weights to hem into each hand-made outfit.

The weights measure just over an inch across and weigh less than an ounce.

Mr Parvin added: “The beauty of a handmade outfit is that it hangs just right but, of course, we have a few tricks up our sleeve.

“Sometimes if she is wearing a lightweight chiffon skirt I will sew in a smaller lead weight the size of a pea or even a length of chain.”
