Call of Duty Modern Warfare UPDATE: PS4 and Xbox One patch news for COD download

Activision and developers Infinity Ward have confirmed that a new Call of Duty Modern Warfare update is being released this week on PS4, PC and Xbox One. While work is still being done to help COD players affected by earlier patch issues in January, the Modern Warfare team are ploughing ahead with fresh changes. We now know that Infinity Ward is planning on releasing a number of playlist tweaks this week on all platforms. These will include bringing back and refreshing the list of modes and variants, including a 2v2 Grind launch.

And there will also be an opportunity for gamers still working through their Season 1 Battle Pass to unlock the final content.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is being updated with a new XP event, ahead of the launch of Season 2.

And with the new COD Battle Pass launching next week, this could be the final patch released for Season 1.

“We’re planning a few things for next week, like some 2v2 Grind action maybe? OR….maybe a playlist for Shipment 24/7 AND a playlist for Shoot House 24/7?” a message from Infinity Ward teases.

“We’ve also got some XP events planned, like 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, AND 2X Tiers, so keep an eye out for when these go live next week!

Commenting on the update issues from last week, the studio message adds: “During last Wednesday’s update, some users were given an error prompt and for those who clicked “Yes”, their combat record stats were temporarily reset.

“This also reset your custom loadouts, Operator customizations, Killstreaks, and Field Upgrade selections back to their default state.

“Anyone who clicked “Yes” and had their combat record stats reset should now see their combat record displaying properly and as they were prior to initiating last Wednesday’s title update. This won’t restore your customizations, so you’ll need to set those up again to your liking.”

For now, it’s unclear if COD Modern Warfare fans will need to download a new update, or simply do everything in-game.

If a full patch is released, fans can also expect some bug fixes and tweaks thrown in too.

When it comes to patch release timings, it appears that the next Playlist refresh will happen on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

This is expected to happen by 7pm, GMT, or 11am PT, if you live in the United States.

However, it should be noted that Infinity Ward may elect to postpone these changes until a big patch is released, as no set release date has been announced for this week’s playlist changes.

MODERN WARFARE SEASON 2

Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s next major update will be arriving later this month on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

MW Season 2 is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, meaning there isn’t much time left on the current content.

Infinity Ward confirmed its plans to extend Season 1 last month, revealing that extra time was needed to polish everything being planned.

“Over the next few weeks, a host of new items and challenges will arrive, including an in-game Challenge to earn the new Crossbow weapon, more remixed game modes, new playlists, and more in the Store to discover,” the team wrote at the time.

“To make room for all that activity, we are making a one-time extension of Season One – it’s now ending on February 11.

“During that time, there will be 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression to help you finish up your Officer Ranks and Tiers, and get you ready for an exciting Season Two.”

Recent rumours suggest that a new Battle Royale mode is being planned for Call of Duty Modern Warfare Season 2.
