Fred Rogers was a household name in the USA, mainly for his work as a children’s TV presenter. He delighted families for more than 30 years with his programme, Mr Rogers’ Neighbourhood, where he helped to deal with children’s emotional issues around topics such as death and divorce. Fans do not have long to wait to see this movie, as it is out on January 31.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood has already been doing the festival rounds and is even nominated for an Oscar for Tom Hanks’ performance as Fred Rogers.
The film was released in the USA in time for Thanksgiving, on November 22, but will be released in the UK just before February begins.

Who is in the cast of A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood?
Tom Hanks plays Fred Rogers, the children’s entertainer who captured the hearts of millions all over the world.
Hanks reportedly watched “hundreds of hours” of footage of Rogers in order to portray him, as well as the documentary about his life from 2018.
Matthew Rhys plays Lloyd Vogel, the cynical journalist Lloyd Vogel, while Susan Kelechi Watson plays Andrea Vogel, Lloyd’s wife.
Chris Cooper plays Jerry Vogal, Lloyd’s estranged father, while Wendy Makkena is Dorothy, his wife and Maryann Plunkett is Joanne Rogers, the wife of Fred.
Enrico Colantoni plays Bill Isler, the head of the company Fred worked with on his children’s shows, while Tammy Blanchard plays Lorraine, Lloyd’s sister, and Noah Harvester plays Todd, Lorraine’s husband.
Finally, Christine Lahti plays Lloyd’s editor, Ellen, while other actors such as David Newell, Carmen Cusack, Maddie Corman and Jessica Hecht have small roles.
