Jose Mourinho breaks silence on Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan transfer with move close

Jose Mourinho has broken his silence on Christian Eriksen’s seemingly imminent Tottenham exit. Eriksen’s future with the north Londoners has been up in the air ever since he revealed his desire to undertake a new challenge last June.

The Dane – who has six months left on his contract with Spurs – ended up staying at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though his admission put several clubs on red alert.

Amongst the clubs alerted by the 27-year-old’s exit plea were Italian giants Inter Milan, who have held talks with the player’s representatives this month.

And earlier this week, it was reported the Nerazzurri have agreed personal terms with the former Ajax man and are on the verge of completing a £17million deal for his services.

It was also claimed Eriksen – who was left out the matchday squad for Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday – will undergo a medical in Milan on Monday.

“Tottenham is the last one to blame for this situation, but to be on the 25th of January in a situation like this is not nice.”

Eriksen, who joined Spurs in 2013, made his desire to move on to pastures new known four days after Tottenham lost the Champions League final to Liverpool.

“I feel that I am at a stage of my career where I would like to try something new,” Eriksen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. “

“I have the deepest respect for everything that is happening at Tottenham and it would not be something negative to stay.

“But I have also said that I would like to try something new. I hope that something will be decided this summer. That is the plan.

“In football, you never know when there could be a decision like that. It could be at any point.

“The best thing is always for it to happen quickly, but in football things take time.”

The first match of the post-Eriksen era at Tottenham could very well be next Sunday’s visit of defending Premier League champions Manchester City.
