Australia fires: How long before Australia recovers from the New South Wales bushfires?

Other parts of the country affected by the fires, however, might react differently depending on the intensity of the flames and forecasts of rainfall.

The climate expert also noted the ongoing bushfire season began incredibly early, as opposed to “now and into February” in the affected areas.

And the looming danger of climate change and global warming means future bushfires are bound to be more extreme.

Dr Cornelius said: “In Australia, there are biggish fires every few years in different parts, and they have different numbers of casualties and different numbers of areas affected.

“They’re a natural phenomenon that are made worse by climate change and the sort of mechanism is: less water, things are drier, higher temperatures, so you get longer fire seasons.

“It’s increasing the likelihood and increasing the severity that is sort of linked to climate change.
