You season 2: Joe Goldberg's neighbour exposed as Penn Badgley drops huge spoiler?

Penn Badgley plays the sadistic stalker Joe Goldberg in the Netflix show, who adopted a new identity, Will Bettleheim, after moving to Los Angeles in season two to start afresh after murdering the woman he had been stalking in New York, Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail). But Penn has now shut down a fan theory for the next season saying it’s “not possible”.

The first season of You saw Joe stalking and infiltrating New York University student Beck’s life, after she stumbled into the bookshop he worked in.

After months of following, Joe killed the people around her that were getting in his way and eventually ended up brutally murdering Beck herself.

Season two saw Joe with a new identity and a new victim, in the form of Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) but as viewers now know, Joe has met his ultimate match.

Love is the surprise killer who was responsible for Delilah Alves’ (Carmela Zumbado) death, when she was locked in Joe’s secret cage.

At the end of the season though, viewers watched as Love announced she was pregnant with Joe’s baby, forcing him to ironically question what he had gotten himself into.

The two were seen moving into a new house, in a pretty all-american white picket fence house.

But, through the fence Joe saw a woman reading a book, and low and behold chooses his next victim for season three.

Of course this left fans heads spinning as they went about trying to work out who this woman was, and a large part of the internet think they have cracked it.

However, actor Penn has put an end to this fan theory confirming it is “definitely” not Joe Goldberg’s mum.

In an interview with Bustle, he said: “She’s definitely not his mom. I can say that.”

Penn has also revealed what he thinks the future could hold for his character after a rather rough few years.

He said: “I think he deserves something better now, you know? Like I’m not sure that that’s possible.

“What does Joe need? Joe needs, ugh, Joe needs justice, but what does that mean? Does that mean prison? Does that mean death? I don’t know.”

The co-creator of You has also spoken out about the rumours, telling Cosmopolitan: “I will say that we have an idea for season three that is SO exciting that people talk about it in the [writer’s] room every day.

“So my fingers are crossed… I’ll just say, I hope we get the chance to keep making the show.”

It is not confirmed when fans might see You season three but one thing is for certain, Joe is in a vulnerable position living with the murdering mother of his child.

You can be streamed on Netflix now.
