It has been reported that United are looking to offer around £50million plus add-ons for the goalscoring midfielder.
According to the Daily Mail, Sporting president Frederico Varandas and sports director Hugo Viana had met with United chiefs at their London offices on Friday and then flew back to Portugal for Sporting’s match against Setubal on Saturday.
However, United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of another transfer target, Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.
Express Sport understands United had looked to Van de Beek as one of their top midfield transfer targets.
