Tottenham urged to launch Edinson Cavani transfer swoop after Harry Kane injury diagnosis

Tottenham should go all out to sign Paris Saint-Germain hitman Edison Cavani, according to former Spurs striker Darren Bent. The north Londoners were dealt a major blow on Thursday when it was announced that Harry Kane will miss the next three months with a hamstring injury.

Kane’s injury has left Spurs light of options up front, with attacking midfielder Heung-Min Son currently the only player in the squad capable of deputising for the skipper.

With Kane being on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, Tottenham fans are understandably concerned where their goals are going to come from.

Bent shares that same concern and believes Spurs boss Jose Mourinho should alleviate that problem by acquiring the services of Cavani, whose future at PSG has been up in the air for some time now.

“Spurs now, in this window, need to go and sign a centre-forward, and not just one that can play back-up to Harry Kane when he gets back,” Bent said during an appearance on talkSPORT.

“You cannot worry about, ‘Okay, we can’t really upset the boat with Harry Kane when he comes back’. You’ve got no time to think about that.

“Harry Kane, once he gets fit, I’m sure he’ll get back into the side, but he might have to be patient.

“Right now they need to go and break the bank and bring somebody in.

“They might have to spend upwards of £60 million because these guys don’t grow on trees, you have to spend the money.”

Cavani, 32, has repeatedly been linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes in recent months, with reports claiming Atletico Madrid are closing in on his signature.

If Spurs were to make an audacious move for Cavani, they would likely be held to ransom by PSG as the former Napoli hitman is a free agent at the end of the season and news of Kane’s injury will be known to the French champions.

Cavani and his PSG team-mates will be back in action on Sunday evening, welcoming AS Monaco to the French capital.

Tottenham, meanwhile, will welcome runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool to Anfield this evening.
