The Grand Tour season 4 boss hints at new series without Jeremy Clarkson and James May

The Grand Tour is the brainchild of former Top Gear trio Richard Hammond, James May, and Jeremy Clarkson. As the trio don’t often come without each other in tow, they have almost instantly began working on The Grand Tour after they left their former job at the BBC. Since then the three have been inseparable, and have rarely worked on projects alone.

The trio have also always been accompanied by their friend and producer Andy Wilman, who oversaw both Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

But now, the producer has spoken out about the show, and indeed his talented crew, and alluded to the fact he would work with other people on the show in the future.

Speaking to Radio Times, he suggested: “The Grand Tour with… blah doing blah. I don’t know who blah is – say, Brian Johnson from AC/DC.

“He’s a car nut, I love him. But that’s not our call, that’s Amazon. All those things are fanciful but I’ll do them.”

A car-based show produced by Wilman without his usual suspects would certainly be a strange occurrence, but has the potential to be very interesting.

With Amazon Prime Video seemingly eager to take on different approaches for the show, could this be an option?

Andy doesn’t think it would be a complete success, however.

He explained Jeremy, Richard, and James “are the show”.

Meanwhile, The Grand Tour’s Twitter account has been defend the release schedule of season four thus far.

Instead of a weekly episode of just under 60 minutes, season four of the show has instead opted for apparently random 90-minute episode releases over the year.

The first instance of this arrived in December, with the release of The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen.

Speaking to fans directly, the Twitter account posted: “Just to let you know. Yes, another special is coming. We’ve finished filming in Madagascar.

“No, we don’t know when it’s coming out yet. Yes, Season 4 is made up of epic specials.

“No, they’re not released weekly. Yes, we’ll have more info in due course #TheGrandTour.”

Fans hit back, with one writing: “We don’t like it… Bring back the older format with weekly episodes and epic adventures. A big thumbs down… I hope you guys are seeing this. We are not happy with this new format.”

The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen is available on Amazon Prime Video now.
