John Lennon is most-widely known for work in The Beatles and his controversial marriage to Japanese artist Yoko Ono, which was widely rumoured to have been the reason the band broke up.
Lauded as a musical legend, Lennon is also known for his attempts to fight for peace with his Ono, but it turns out there were times the star struggled with violence in his own life.
In an unearthed interview, the star recalled how he felt after losing control during fellow bandmate and singer Paul McCartney’s birthday party in June, 1963.
At the time, Lennon was married to Cynthia Lennon, but rumours about an alleged affair with his manager Brian Epstein reportedly led to a joke at the party.
DJ Bob Wooler, who died in February 2002, knew the band well and had introduced them at various parties and events over the course of their career.
Wooler allegedly jokingly made a comment to Lennon about the alleged affair, and pressed the singer to share the details.
Lennon beat Wooler, repeatedly kicking him in the ribs while he lay bloodied on the ground.

Following the incident, the singer claimed he was so “upset and embarrassed”, according to Gentside, that it sent him on a different path without violence.
Wooler made a full recovery from the beating.
Elsewhere, Queen guitarist Brian May recently shared his heartbreak that the Beatles didn’t get to use some of the incredible set pieces and special effects that Queen did because touring was so tricky.
Sharing his thoughts on his Instagram page, May said: “Long days, hammering out new pieces of action – and interaction between us, the performers, and the massive and highly sophisticated beast which is our touring rig.
The Beatles only toured between 1964 and 1966 and their final US leg was faced with controversy over comments Lennon had made about the band being “bigger than Jesus”.
They also struggled with technical issues and had trouble with the sound quality at their performances.
The tour finished August 29 in San Francisco and the Beatles didn’t embark on another before their split in 1970.
Queen is estimated to have performed over 700 live shows, with over 400 of them in the 1970s.
