Iran attack killed 'terrorist eager to destroy the West' – Huge praise for Trump in poll

Up to 10,034 readers agreed with the US President for the call for the air strike that ended with the killing of the Iranian. This is compared to 19 percent of readers who said they did not agree with the move, amounting to 2,648 participants. Up to 1,357 people clicked the ‘don’t know’ option, which was nine percent of the vote.

Express.co.uk collected data from 14,039 readers for the poll that ran from 10.46am to 7.46pm yesterday, January 3, 2020.

Comments widely reflected the poll result.

One commenter said simply: “You live by the sword, you die by the sword.”

Another added: “I’m against foreign intervention and the use of drone attacks in general but after the complete debacle that was Benghazi, a message needed to be sent that there would be a heavy cost for attacking a US embassy.”

A third added: “They thought they could get away with terrorism, for once an American president said no. Well done Donald Trump.”

A forth said: “If Iran wants to play with fire expect to get your fingers burnt.”

Another said: “These religious savages have mixed up this President with the last spineless and gutless waste of time Obama.

“Contrast the reaction to the attack on the Iraqi Embassy to the response from Obama when they attacked the Benghazi embassy in Libya where Obama and Hillary Clinton ordered the military to stand down when it was under attack and allowed the ambassador and three security experts to be murdered in cold blood.

Another added: “It’s not easy in the world when you have fanatics who want to destroy your way of life sometimes you have to go to war for peace.”

The Pentagon today confirmed Soleimani’s death.

They said he had orchestrated a series of attacks on coalition bases in Iraq in recent few months, and gave the green light to “attacks” on the US Embassy in Baghdad earlier this week, which the US blamed on Kataib Hezbollah.

However, Democrat Joe Biden, who is hoping to face off against President Trump in November’s Presidential election, has accused him of having “tossed a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox”, and feared the US could be sucked into a “major conflict” – inevitably raising the prospect of UK, as a close ally of the US, likewise getting involved.

Qassem Soleimani was widely regarded as a national hero in the face of four decades of US pressure.

But for the US and Israel, he was a shadowy figure in command of Iran’s proxy forces, responsible for fighters in Syria backing President Bashar Assad and for the deaths of American troops in Iraq.
