Holidays: Travellers could save money by booking holidays on this day of the week

Holidays are high on the agenda for Britons, with six in ten people booking some form of holiday in the last year. With so many vacation package options out there, it can be hard to know which one to pick. Plus, thanks to an array of travel comparison websites, customers may feel assured they are getting the best deal out there – but are they really?

Meanwhile setting your departure date for a Friday could see even more savings.

In fact, travellers could get their journey up to 21 percent cheaper compared to a Friday flight.

The data also went on to reveal that travellers booking on a Wednesday could be shelling out more than any other day.

“There is evidence that suggests Friday is the cheapest day of the week for travellers to fly out of the UK and Sunday is the most expensive day to fly out of the UK,” explained Lisa Tyndall, senior growth manager at Skyscanner.

“Switching their flight departure date from a Sunday to a Friday could save travellers 21 per cent.

“Travellers should also consider flying out of a different airport nearby to save money, for example, a family of four could save over £500 by switching to a different departure airport that’s not much further away.”

Luckily, ways to save on holidays don’t stop with the day of the week.

According to experts, how far in advance holidaymakers plan their trip can also make all the difference, though it may not be what you expect.

While you may think booking up as soon as possible will deliver the most savings, it seems this is not the case.

Kayak, a holiday and travel comparison website, revealed that passengers could save an impressive 69 percent by booking at the right time.

According to the experts, booking 63 days in advance is the key to ensuring the best price.

Utilising data from bookings to European destinations made through the platform they found that on average travellers saved 56 percent.

Meanwhile, Kayak.com went o to reveal that long-haul flights benefit from the most savings when booked 51 days in advance.

Of course, regardless of when you decide to book, costs largely vary based on the airline and destination.
