Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast star finally breaks silence on ‘£200-a-day chauffeur cost’

Earlier this month, it was reported that BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, 42, is driven in an executive car from his home in Sheffield to the studio in Salford and back again three days a week. According to The Sun on Sunday, the 39.4 mile journey costs the corporation £100 per trip and could add up to around £30,000 a year.

Dan hit back at a Twitter user who queried the claim on the social media site earlier this week.

The exchange began after the presenter shared a post about the use of VAR in a recent Aston Villa vs Burnley FC match.

In view of his 610,000 Twitter followers, he wrote: “Come on. This is getting daft.”

In response to his post, one user wrote: “Nearly as daft as taxpayers funding your thousand pound a week taxi to your high paid job.”

Seemingly denying the claim, Dan replied: “I suggest a New Year’s resolution for you… stop reading & believing rubbish newspapers [thumbs up emoji].”

The person in question then asked: “Whats the truth then?”, which Dan didn’t respond to.

Earlier this month, an insider claimed Dan’s journey to work is within the BBC company rules of a 40-mile limit for taxi travel but it has also been alleged his return journey is not covered.

A source said: “It’s atrocious how much bosses fork out just for him to work.

Express.co.uk contacted Dan Walker and BBC Breakfast representatives, with the latter refusing to comment.

Dan lives in Sheffield with his wife Sarah and their three children.

The Football Focus star is believed to earn around £250,000 a year with the BBC.

Justifying his position on the “big earners list” back in 2018, he reportedly said: “I was only higher up the BBC list because I was doing other jobs for them, including working on Football Focus.
