New Year’s traditions: The 5 New Year’s Eve traditions from around the world

Chile

In Chile, many will visit a cemetery on New Year’s Eve.

This tradition began when a family in the small Chilean town of Talca jumped over a cemetery fence to spend the New Year visiting their father’s grave.

Nowadays thousands head to the cemetery to spend the New Year with their loved ones who have passed.

Eating grapes, lentils and wearing yellow shorts is also considered a Chilean New Year’s Eve tradition.
