Ed Sheeran Reveals He Has Lost 50 Pounds In Six Months, And This Is How He Did It

When Ed Sheeran was in the United States this past summer wrapping up his two-year long Divide tour, he says that he weighed about 15 or 16 stone, which is between 210 and 225 pounds. But now, just six months later, Sheeran says he is down to 12 stone, which is 168 pounds!

The Shape of You singer recently visited the British podcast Behand The Medal, and he said that it was his time in America that caused him to gain weight.

“It’s always America that gets me. America in buses,” the 28-year-old singer explained. “You finish a gig in America, you get a tray of chicken wings, sit in the back of the bus, watch The Simpsons, drink a couple bottles of wine, but then that’s every single day.”

Sheeran said that once he finished his tour and stopped the bad eating habits – plus the daily dose of alcohol – he started exercising, which is something he hadn’t done as an adult. The singer/songwriter explained that he didn’t touch exercise for a long time. When he was a kid, he was really into sports, but when he got into music and started smoking that “all kind of went out the window.”

Three years ago, Sheeran finally stopped smoking. And, after he decided to give exercise a try he ended up loving it. HIs workout routine includes 45 minutes of running each morning followed by sit-ups or swimming.

Sheeran says he enjoys exercise because it helps him unplug and disconnect from the world for a short time each day. He pointed out that he can’t check emails or watch TV shows, and instead he is talking with someone or thinking, and that’s a really good thing.

After the massive success of his Divide album and tour – which raked in $432 million – Sheeran revealed on Instagram this week that he is taking a break for a while so he can live his life and come up with new things to write about. He is going on hiatus from both music and social media because things have been “a bit nonstop” in recent months, which means it’s time to “take a breather.”

“The ‘Divide’ era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see more of the world,” wrote Ed Sheeran. “I’ll be off all social media until it’s time to come back.”
