Melania and Donald Trump met with a highly decorated combat veteran convicted of a war crime at the President’s exclusive beach resort club after defending the veteran over his actions abroad. Eddie Gallagher visited the Trumps to thank the president for personally intervening to stop military chiefs stripping him of his trident pin and prosecuting him for war crimes.
Mr Gallagher reportedly gave the president a gift from his time serving in the Battle of Mosul.
It was here that the serviceman is said to have repeatedly stabbed a prisoner of war (POW) with a hunting knife before posing for photos with his dead body.
Trump’s controversial personal intervention came last month.
It sent shockwaves through the Pentagon’s hierarchy, undermining its purpose and authority.

Photos posted to Mr Gallagher’s Instagram page, which he shares with his wife, Andrea, showed the couple smiling alongside Trump and the First Lady.
In the post’s caption, they wrote: “Finally got to thank the President and his amazing wife by giving them a little gift from Eddie’s deployment to Mosul.”
The post tagged both Trump and Melania, as well as using a hashtag to promote Trump’s 2020 presidential election campaign.
As well as being accused of killing the ISIS POW, Mr Gallagher is alleged to have attempted to kill civilians in Iraq.

They also reportedly informed the commander of Mr Gallagher’s alleged shooting of an elderly man and schoolgirl from a sniper roost.
However, instead of immediately facing an investigation, Mr Gallagher was awarded a Bronze Star for value by Navy chiefs.
It wasn’t until September 2018 that Mr Gallagher was arrested.
This came after members of his platoon repeatedly attempted to convince officials to launch an investigation into the accusations.
Despite the numerous allegations, Mr Gallagher was acquitted by a military jury of nearly all the charges he faced.
Just the allegation that he had posed for a photo with a dead captive stuck, with Mr Gallagher being demoted.
Then, top officials attempted to strip him of his Trident pin but this was overturned by Trump.
The president claimed that Mr Gallagher’s case had been mishandled by the Navy and said he was defending America’s soldiers from unfair prosecution.
Mr Gallagher and his wife have previously supported Turning Points USA, a conservative non-profit advocacy group known to have ties with the American far-right.
Trump has also supported Turning Points, having spoken at their conference this week.
