His departure in the ninth series was a disappointment for fans, both in losing the show’s centre and the manner in which he was helicoptered to safety after sustaining an apparently mortal wound.
While this would be the last time Rick would be seen on the small screen, his exit was the first step (or helicopter ride) to the character reaching the big screen in a trilogy of The Walking Dead films.
Currently titled “Untitled: The Walking Dead Movie”, Andrew will be directed by Greg Nicotero, who directed 31 episodes of the TV series as well as acting as an executive producer.
The films were first announced in 2018 and it was believed production was due to start in 2019. It is apparently still in pre-production.
