Arsenal's next manager Mikel Arteta at Oxford vs Man City as chiefs finalise Emirates move

Arsenal’s incoming manager Mikel Arteta is going on with business as usual until his move back to the Emirates from Manchester City is finalised. Pep Guardiola’s assistant is at the Kassam Stadium tonight as City prepare to take on Oxford for a place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Arteta has been pictured on the pitch as City gear up for the cup clash while Arsenal chiefs sort out the paperwork for his return to north London.

The 37-year-old was spotted chatting to Raheem Sterling, who he’s understood to have had a profound impact on since joining Guardiola’s backroom team in 2016.

Arteta has helped transform Sterling into one of the world’s most deadly attacking forces by working closely with the winger on the training ground.

The Spaniard also kept a close eye on Riyad Mahrez warming up as Carabao Cup holders City seek to take another step towards retaining the trophy.

Rodolfo Borrell, another member of Guardiola’s staff, was pictured speaking to Arteta, who is said to want the veteran coach to follow him to Arsenal.

Arteta’s work at City has helped him develop a reputation as an enterprising young coach with plenty of admirers.

Arsenal’s interest in recruiting Arteta was mirrored by Everton, before they decided to make Carlo Ancelotti their new boss.
