Liverpool star Sadio Mane had special request for Troy Deeney during private tunnel chat

Leicester’s draw with Norwich later in the day means Liverpool are ten points clear at the summit as they prepare to jet off to Qatar for the Club World Cup. Despite a nervy afternoon at Anfield, there was still time for a nice moment after the game when Liverpool star Sadio Mane shared a touching conversation with Watford captain Troy Deeney.

The chat was picked up by cameras, likely to be recording the latest instalment of Liverpool’s ‘Inside Anfield’ YouTube series.

Mane can be seen chatting with Watford winger Ismaila Sarr, who was a bright spark during the game despite missing a number of notable chances for the visitors.

The duo play together for Senegal and Mane has taken on the responsibility of looking after the 21-year-old when with the national team, whilst also helping him adapt to life in England.

Like Mane, Sarr was a graduate of Generation Foot, a football academy based in Dakar in Senegal which looks to provide youngsters with a gateway into Europe.

After impressing in Ligue 1 and the Europa League last season, Arsenal were said to be among the clubs keeping tabs on him, but Watford eventually won the race for the Senegal international for a club record fee of around £30million.

However Hornets fans have had to be patient to see the best from Sarr, who made just one Premier League start before November 30th.

Since then, he has played every single minute of league action and has received a vote of confidence from new boss Nigel Pearson.

Ahead of the contest, the jet-heeled winger paid tribute to Mane for helping him settle to life in England.

“Sadio is talking to me all the time. He advises me to ‘do this, do that’. He is a big brother for me,” Sarr told BBC Sport.

“When I arrived, he sent messages saying ‘welcome to the Premier League, welcome to England’ and we also talk when we are in the national team.

“He gives me tips, I try to execute them and to implement them. ‘If you don’t play, be calm, carry on, do your job, it will be OK’, that is what he says. So I try to do the same.

“If I do not play, no problem. I come and work on the following day.”
