Donald Trump urges Greta Thunberg to ‘work on her anger management’ in Twitter outburst

The US President, who was on the shortlist for the annual award, described her win on Twitter as “so ridiculous”.

He added: “Greta must work on her anger management problem, then go to a good old-fashioned movie with a friend. Chill Greta, Chill.” Mr Trump posted his outburst in response to a tweet congratulating the Swede, who has Asperger’s syndrome.

After his snide remarks, Greta did not reply directly but updated her Twitter profile to read: “A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old-fashioned movie with a friend.” The President’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in, blasting the magazine’s decision.

“Time leaves out the Hong Kong Protesters fighting for their lives and freedoms to push a teen being used as a marketing gimmick,” he wrote. “How dare you?”

Greta has long been a target of the US President, who has previously called climate change a “hoax”. In September, he mocked her emotional speech at the United Nations, tweeting that she “seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see.”

Greta had chastised world leaders for praising young activists while failing to deliver on drastic actions needed to avert the worst effects of climate change.
