Google Home is getting a very noteworthy new update

Google has gone all out with new upgrades for its connected home series in recent weeks. Most recently the firm added Assistant support for a number of nifty smart devices ranging from wardrobes to lawnmowers. And now the Mountain View firm has announced it’s adding the ability to create and manage notes using its chatty Assistant.

The new note-taking feature will work for Google Keep, Any.do, AnyList and Bring! Of course, all Google Home speakers and Google Nest smart displays will support the functionality.

Of course, the synergy offered by the new Assistant feature is most appealing. It means you can spontaneously make a note of your shopping list and summon it when you’re shuffling down the yoghurt aisle to make sure you don’t forget anything.

To enable the feature, you’ll first have to connect the Google Assistant to your notes app of choice. This can be done by heading to the “Services” tab in the Assistant settings, from there you should select a preferred notes provider under the aptly titled “Notes and Lists” section.

As soon as the Assistant is connected, you’ll instantly be able to ask it about historical notes that were made before this nifty functionality was released.

Here’s a few examples of new commands you can bark out at your Google smart speaker or smart display:

• “Create a holiday gift list.”

• “Take a note Zoe’s birthday is this Friday”

• “Add pigs in blankets to my shopping list.”

• “Show me my notes.”

As you’d expect, the ability to take down notes using only your voice on the fly will certainly come in handy during the busy festive season. Now you’ll have no excuse for forgetting to pick up a present or the turkey stuffing.

Of course, the new functionality is available on all Assistant-enabled devices, not just the likes of the Google Home, Google Nest Mini and Google Nest Hub. You’ll also be able to take advantage of it on smartphones, too.

Eager to test out the new note-taking feature? Well you’re in luck. Google has already started rolling out the feature, so you won’t have to wait long (assuming you don’t have it already).
