Asteroid alert: NASA tracks a swarm of rocks headed past Earth but will the asteroids hit?

Asteroid 2019 WH2

The first space rock to approach Earth on Sunday is Asteroid 2019 WH2.

NASA’s trackers at the Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) first spotted the rock on November 25 this year.

The asteroid is estimated to measure in the range of 36ft to 78.7ft (11m to 24m) across.

NASA also estimates the rock is flying through space at speeds of around 10.17km per second or 22,749mph (36,611km/h).

The close flyby will occur around 9.15am GMT (4.15am EDT) on Sunday.
