Five Napoli fans were arrested before Liverpool’s Champions League match against the Serie A side kicked-off. Merseyside Police arrested five men, for a combination of breaching the peace, affray, and violent disorder.
Three fans were arrested for violent disorder, while another man was reprimanded for affray.
At the turnstiles, a further arrest was made after a Napoli fan “breached the peace”, Merseyside Police have confirmed.
A Merseyside Police statement read: “Officers policing the Liverpool v Napoli Champions League game at Anfield tonight (Wednesday, 27 November 2019) have arrested 5 Napoli fans following incidents of disorder prior to the game.
“Three men [aged 45, 31 and 29 years] were arrested for violent disorder and a 30-year-old man was arrested for affray following disorder on Walton Breck Road.

“And a fifth man [aged 46 years] was arrested for breach of the peace at the turnstiles on Anfield Road.
“Those arrested have been taken to police stations where they will be interviewed.
“There was some disorder near to the Arkles pub on Anfield Road but the crowds were dispersed by officers who were at the ground.”
Police in Liverpool had sent fans a message before kick-off, after it was made aware of concerning social media images.
Sections of Napoli fans were spotted wielding – what appeared to be – golf clubs.
Merseyside Police confirmed that officers have confiscated a number of flags and flag poles, but there’s no sign of golf clubs.
