Tottenham supporters have been warned that Jose Mourinho’s trophies come with a cost by West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini.
The Hammers entertain Spurs for Mourinho’s first match in charge at the London Stadium this Saturday (12.30pm).
The Portuguese boss was only appointed early on Wednesday morning, less than 12 hours after Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked by the north London club.
Pochettino enjoyed a five-year stint at Spurs that culminated in reaching the Champions League final last season.
But despite the improvement he oversaw, the South American tactician failed to win a trophy – though he did manage a respectable four top-four finishes in a row.

His successor, Mourinho, has won silverware in all of his managerial spells with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
This is his third different Premier League club and his fourth stint as a manager in England’s top flight, having won three league titles, an FA Cup, four Carabao Cups and the Europa League while a manager on British shores.
Pellegrini, another coach to have won a league title in England, believes Mourinho is capable of ending Spurs’ wait for a first prize since the 2007 League Cup, having not won the FA Cup since 1991 and the league since 1961.
But he also suggested that Mourinho’s style may not be all that popular at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the 56-year-old having long faced criticism for his way of playing.
He said: “Jose Mourinho, in every league where he works, in Italy, in Spain, here in England.
“He is a manager that has a lot of titles behind him so he will be a manager who is good for football.
“After that you must think of what kind of football you want.
“Of course the philosophy of Pochettino is not the same as the philosophy of Mourinho, but he’s just in charge of the team in two days so I don’t think he will try to change all properly.”
And Pellegrini insists he has a different way of wanting to play to the pragmatic Mourinho, who has been sacked from his two most recent jobs at Chelsea and United.
“Tottenham have a very good team with some very good players. Being outside of Tottenham we cannot know what is happening,” the Chilean, formerly in charge at Manchester City, said.
“Pochettino was a manager who did a lot of good work for a lot of years for Tottenham. Now they have another experienced manager, Jose Mourinho.
“Everyone has his option to play football the way they want, to say what they want to say. He’s not my friend, but he’s not my enemy. We have different ways of thinking about football.”
