Meghan Markle: Duchess used to travel very differently on flights before Prince Harry

Meghan Markle is the embodiment of elegance and sartorial glamour when spotted in public these days. Even when she is travelling abroad, the Duchess of Sussex is always preened, coiffed and impeccably dressed. Meghan and Prince Harry now undertake plenty of royal travel – but things were quite different just a few years ago.

Meghan Markle explained some of her views on travel during a photo shoot with Good Housekeeping in 2016.

Meghan completely advised against wearing heels on a flight.

“Definitely wear sneakers, don’t wear heels,” she said in the behind-the-scenes footage.

Prince Harry’s wife is regularly seen wearing chic dresses and skirts at airports on foreign visits.

DON’T MISS

However, this would seem to be at odds with how she used to dress before she married the Queen’s grandson.

The former Suits star recommended wearing “really great comfy trousers” when travelling.

Of course, Meghan didn’t eschew elegance entirely during flights.

She advised donning a “simple top” teamed with a “black blazer or something like that so you look refined.”

When heading off on a royal visit, Meghan and Harry are likely briefed by advisers regarding the trip and prepped for their arrival.

However, before joining the Royal Family, flights were a much more laid-back affair for Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex has previously advocated kicking back with wine on a flight.

“The best way to kill time on a flight is to drink wine and watch movies,” Meghan told Good Housekeeping. “It’s like a vacation in the sky.”

Megan is well used to travelling, thanks to her acting career and role as a royal.

The mother-of-one has previously spoken up about looking after yourself when jet setting.

“The foremost issue is self-care,” she wrote on her (now-defunct) blog called The Tig. “It’s easy to run yourself ragged, hopping from one locale to another, sometimes feeling homesick, and other times just feeling plain-old sick.

“Yes, it can sometimes feel quite glamorous; but, jet-setting (for work or pleasure) comes with its own set of complications!”
