Phil Spencer: Property expert reveals clever trick to boost property value by £5,000

Phil Spencer has shared property selling tips as the co-founder of the advice site, Move iQ. When putting a property on the market, homeowners will want to get as good a price as possible for their house. The expert revealed the best way for sellers to boost the value of their home by £5,000.

Touch-ups around the home can include a fresh lick of paint or tidying up rubbish that may be lying around.

Homeowners should also make sure to pay attention to their garden when selling as this is often the first things buyers will see.

He added: “Freshly painted window frames will suggest that your home is well-maintained and reassure buyers that the house is in good condition throughout.

“A tidy, junk-free and well-planted garden will also add extra value to your property if you are looking to sell.”

DON’T MISS

Improvements in the garden do not need to cost a lot but can add thousands to the house.

“This can cost as little as £200 but add up to £5,000 to the value of your property,” Phil explained.

“Start by planting plenty of colourful flowers to welcome visitors in the front garden.

“In the back, mow the lawn, reseed bare patches and trim the hedges.”

The expert explained: “Perhaps the simplest – yet most overlooked – way to add value to your home is to give it a name.

“Regal-sounding names such as ‘Crown Cottage’ are often popular with buyers.

“Pastoral names such as ‘Harvest Lodge’ or ‘Owl Corner’ can evoke a rural setting.”
