Jose Mourinho to Tottenham LIVE: New boss' first words, chief's verdict, Pochettino latest

Tottenham fans react to Jose Mourinho news

Tottenham fans are reacting in their droves to the news Jose Mourinho is Spurs’ new boss – and the responses have been mixed.

“Let’s go Jose!!!!” tweeted one enthused supporter, followed by another saying: “This is a great step forward for THFC.”

One angry Tottenham fan, though, asked: “Is this fake news or is it April 1st?? Joke… levy out….”

An Arsenal enthusiast also weighed in, saying: “Wow I’m literally speechless coming from an Arsenal fan.”

Next up for Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino shouldn’t be facing too long a spell in the wilderness given his achievements at Tottenham.

The Argentine gaffer turned Spurs into top-four regulars and led them to last season’s Champions League final.

Bayern Munich has been touted as a potential destination for Pochettino, while Real Madrid will cast admiring glances his way.

Manchester United might have Pochettino in their sights too, particularly given he was one of the main contenders to replace Mourinho at Old Trafford earlier this year.

Tottenham chief’s Jose Mourinho verdict

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is counting on Jose Mourinho to inspire Spurs following their dismal start to the season.

“In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football,” Levy said, as Mourinho’s arrival was announced.

“He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached.

“We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”

Jose Mourinho to Tottenham confirmed

Jose Mourinho is the new manager of Tottenham and the Portuguese can’t wait to get started in north London.

“I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters,” Mourinho said.

“The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

Mourinho has been appointed on a four-year deal which will keep him at Tottenham until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
