When will Carmelo Anthony make Trail Blazers debut? Fresh update as NBA star returns

Carmelo Anthony is set to make his debut for the Portland Trail Blazers in the near future.

The 35-year-old has been searching for a way back in the league for almost a year now having been dropped from the squad after just 10 games with the Houston Rockets last season.

But he has now found his way back into the league after signing a non-guaranteed deal with Portland.

Anthony is expected to travel with his new team for their six-game road trip, beginning tomorrow night against the San Antonio Spurs.

And the Trail Blazers then face off against Anthony’s former team in the Rockets on Monday night.

However, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports Anthony will play no part in that game.

Wojnarowski goes on to state Anthony could play against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday at the earliest.

Anthony first has to complete a physical with the Trail Blazers, which could be finalised in the next 24 hours.

The 10-time All Star could be expected to play a big role in the not-to-distant future as well due to Portland’s injury woes on the frontcourt.

Both power forwards Pau Gasol and Zach Collins are currently out injured while Jusuf Nurkic remains sidelined until at least February.

It has meant Portland putting trust in the likes of Mario Hezonja and Anthony Tolliver in the starting line-up.

The Trail Blazers have struggled so far this season with a 4-8 record despite Damian Lillard putting up career-high numbers averaging over 30 points per game.

Anthony could certainly add more shooting to the roster if deployed in the correct role.
