LeBron James drops retirement hint that he could plan to play for another 10 years

LeBron James has hinted he could follow Tom Brady’s plans in playing until he is 45 years old.

NFL superstar Brady recently stated he doesn’t plan on retiring from the sport in the near future.

At 42 years of age, the New England Patriots star admitted he plans to continue playing for potentially three more years.

An NFL campaign, consisting of 16 regular season games, can be regarded as far less gruelling than that in the NBA, where teams play a minimum of 82 games throughout the calendar year.

Still, there are plenty of players in NBA history that have enjoyed careers long into their 40s.

Vince Carter is the oldest current player, approaching his 43rd birthday and ranks fifth on the all-time list of games played in the NBA.

James, 34, sits 37th on that list having gone deep in the playoffs for the majority of his career.

Those games take a toll on a player’s body, but James is proving this season that he still has plenty left in the tank to be playing at an MVP-calibre level.

And when asked whether he had given thought to when his NBA career might come to an end, James hinted he could follow in the footsteps of Brady.

“Not really. Not the way I feel right now,” James said.

“Me and Tom Brady are one in the same.

“We’re going to play until we can’t walk no more.”

James missed out on the playoffs in his debut season with the Los Angeles Lakers last year in what proved a disappointing campaign for the four-time MVP.

But he has been joined by Anthony Davis at the Staples Center for this season.

And they have made a strong start to the new campaign, sitting top of the Western Conference with a 9-2 record.
