The Witcher Renewed for Season 2 – IGN News

Ahead of its December 20 premiere on Netflix, The Witcher has been renewed for a second season.According to the streamer, Season 2 of The Witcher will begin production in London early in 2020, for a planned debut in 2021, and will consist of 8 episodes. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich responded to the news: “I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.”

Netflix also released a detailed look at both of Geralt’s swords, which you can see in our Witcher gallery below:

In recent news, Hissrich revealed that she has seven seasons of The Witcher planned if Netflix keeps renewing the series. “I’ve [mapped out stories] for seven seasons. Right now it’s just about, ‘how do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?’”

Julian Parry, The Witcher’s VFX supervisor, told SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar), that the series “leans more towards horror. We’re definitely taking the fantasy out. I can honestly say we’re not fantastical. I mean, it’s fantastical but in a grounded horror sense.”

Back on Halloween, Netflix dropped a new trailer featuring several book references and a few tantalizing Easter eggs that fans of the video game franchise will recognize. Be sure to check out our trailer breakdown of the latest Witcher trailer in the video below:
