Sonic the Hedgehog movie TRAILER: Fans ‘absolutely in LOVE’ with redesign after backlash

Back in the spring the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was launched but received ruthless criticism from fans. Social media reactions slammed Sonic’s human teeth and lack of white gloves, demanding a look closer to the video game incarnation.

Following the backlash, director Jeff Fowler announced that SEGA and Paramount Pictures had taken the criticisms on board and agreed to redesign Sonic, pushing the release date back from Boxing Day to Valentine’s Day.

At the time, Fowler tweeted: “Thank you for the support. And the criticism.

“The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design and you want changes.

“It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast.”

But now a new trailer has launched with the redesign, so what did fans make of it?

Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler tweeted today: “Today is the DAY!

“Could not be more excited to share our new Sonic with you.

“THANK YOU for your patience and support.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the fans. #SonicMovie.”

The film stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic, while James Marsden plays Sheriff Tom Wachowski and Jim Carrey is the villainous Dr Ivo Robotic.

The official synopsis reads: “Tom Wachowski, a San Francisco Police Department officer-turned-newly appointed Sheriff of Green Hills, Montana, journeys from Green Hills to San Francisco to assist Sonic, an anthropomorphic extraterrestrial blue hedgehog who can run at incredible speeds, in evading capture by the government, collecting his rings, and defeating the insane scientist Doctor Robotnik.”

Sonic the Hedgehog is released in UK cinemas on February 14, 2020.
