Batman: Could this huge Marvel star FINALLY be getting a DC role?

The Batman could be set to reunite Andy Serkis with Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves, with reports claiming the Marvel star is being considered for the role of Alfred Pennyworth. According to Variety, Serkis could be playing butler to Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne in the 2021 DC Comics movie. The actor has previously crossed over into the comic world in the MCU, where he played arms dealer Ulysses Klaue in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther.

He has also reportedly been drafted in as the director of Venom 2, the sequel to Ruben Fleischer’s 2018 film starring Tom Hardy.

Now, he’s rumoured to be breaking into the DC universe as Alfred.

Meanwhile, the publication also reported Colin Farrell is being eyed for the part of The Penguin, following in the footsteps of the likes of Danny DeVito.

If Serkis gets the part, he will join the ranks of previous Alfreds Michael Caine, Jeremy Irons and Michael Gough.

Reeves previously directed both Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Batman star Pattinson has teased an “interesting direction” for there new take on the superhero story, telling Variety: “I really like Matt Reeves and his setup for it.

“It’s an interesting direction. It’s something from the comics which hasn’t really been explored yet.”

The King actor hinted Reeves might be portraying Batman in a new light, adding that the “quite specific” character “actually has a lot of leeway”.

Pattinson first found fame playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before rocketing to superstardom as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise.

Since then, he has achieved critical acclaim in the likes of The Rover, The Lost City of Z and Good Time.

He recently starred in The Lighthouse and David Michôd’s The King.

The Batman is slated for release in UK cinemas June 25 2021.
