Manchester United fans believe Newcastle United starlet Matty Longstaff only won Match of the Day’s goal of the month competition because his strike sank the Red Devils.
The 19-year-old netted his first goal for his boyhood club against the 20-time Premier League winners in October, with the 72nd minute strike enough to seal all three points for Newcastle.
The goal, which came at the end of a sweeping counter attack at St James’ Park, earned 22 per cent of the vote from Match of the Day 2 viewers, beating Jay Rodriguez’s volley for Burnley against Chelsea to the top prize.
The Clarets forward’s effort earned 20 per cent of the vote, while Everton star Gylfi Sigurdsson’s strike against West Ham came in third position with 13 per cent of votes.
Although Newcastle fans were ecstatic for Longstaff after winning the award, Man Utd supporters were less happy about the voting.

And some took to social media to claim that rival fans only picked the youngster’s goal as it added to the Red Devils’ woes this season.
One of the Old Trafford faithful tweeted: “It’s amazing how many people just love seeing United f****d over, definitely the most average goal of the bunch.”
While another agreed: “Hard to quantify just how much other fans have been enjoying Utd’s current s*** show.
“Awarding Longstaff goal of the month for that has pretty much confirmed that it’s substantial.”
But fans of other sides were happy to see the goal win the award, with many hailing any strike against Solskjaer’s men.
One supporter tweeted: “Any goal of the month that’s beaten Man Utd must be a good goal!”
While another wrote: “It was probably the worst of the bunch, its just people trolling United #loveit.”
A third fan added: “Any winning goal against Man U deserves to win GoTM, imo. Well done, Matty Longstaff.”
Some fans were less impressed however and were left disappointed that their side didn’t scoop the prize.
One Aston Villa fan put: “Longstaff wins goal of the month when Douglas Luiz nearly took the top corner out of the net #smh.”
While an Arsenal fan tweeted: “When did MOTD ban Arsenal from being in Goal of the Month & how long are we banned for?”
