Motsi Mabuse: Strictly judge responds to claims she was ‘fuming’ over latest elimination

Some Strictly Come Dancing 2019 fans have speculated online that Motsi Mabuse seemed to be “fuming” following Sunday’s result, which saw former Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley sent home. But the BBC judge, 38, said she is simply an emotional person, and that this can easily be misinterpreted. One viewer had tweeted Motsi: “Aww didn’t want those two to leave….you looked fuming at the result!”

Another user commented on Motsi’s reaction to Catherine’s exit: “She doesn’t look happy! I think it was the wrong decision… Yea you could see Motsi’s disappointed face during the last dance’ [sic]”.

A third penned: “Seconded. I am so cross about it. Motsi looked like she was fuming! Plus, are they marking up some and down others? I thought Karim was brilliant and couldn’t understand why they couldn’t see how great the dance was (apart from Bruno)’ [sic]”.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the reaction, the reality show star said: “For me, it was just feeling what the other guys are feeling.

“You grow to like the people and when you see somebody sad, it’s normal, everybody is sad.

“I am just more emotionally out there.”

She continued to say that just about anything is possible when it comes to who takes home the Glitterball trophy on Strictly, and she still has no idea who will win.

Motsi continued: “With this series, anything can happen from what I am seeing. I really don’t know, but I think the winner will really deserve to win so I don’t want to jinx anyone.”

Motsi, who’s sister Oti is a Strictly pro dancer and fan favourite, has also spoken out over rumours that she will be the next head judge on the hit BBC series.

“That is how this works, and never will there be a reverse result. We have to accept it and keep going. We love the dancing, that’s what it’s about.”

And when asked if she ever did fancy stepping into dance veteran Shirley’s shoes, she admitted that the coveted job looked very “tough”.

She explained: “No, Shirley has a tough job! And I wouldn’t like to be in that position, especially as everyone afterwards reacts like this.

“I’m thinking somebody has to have the courage to do it. She’s doing it, so well done.”

Motsi joined Strictly Come Dancing as a judge this year, replacing Strictly veteran Dame Darcey Bussell.

The mum of one is sister to Oti Mabuse, 29, who has served as a professional dancer on Strictly since 2015.

Currently paired with this series favourite Kevin Fletcher, Oti also serves as a caption on The Greatest Dancer.
