Man Utd star Marcus Rashford compared to Cristiano Ronaldo after Chelsea free kick

Manchester United fans were left stunned when Marcus Rashford scored an absolute screamer of a free-kick to help them secure a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

And the technique of his free-kick saw fans quickly draw comparisons with another former United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

One said: “That Rashford free Kick was as good as Ronaldo’s free kick against Portsmouth. #Rashford #Ronaldo”

While another thought it was actually better, they said: “Genuinely, that Rashford free kick is better than Ronaldo v Portsmouth ’08.

Another though Ashford might have been watching the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, as they said: “Rashford definitely watched some C Ronaldo videos before the game.”

A third said: “I’m convinced Rashford was actually Ronaldo in disguise.”

While another added: “Rashford brings out his inner Ronaldo whenever he meets Chelsea.”

Rashford helped United take the lead with a penalty after 25 minutes after Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso was adjudged to have fouled Daniel James.

United took the goal lead into the break but when the game restarted Chelsea struck next just after the hour mark.

Michy Batshuayi fended off several challenges during his sublime dribble from the half-way line and finished off the run with a strike from outside the box.

However, 12 minutes later Rashford would score the pick of the goals in the game and possibly even a goal-of-the-season contender.

The strike means Rashford has now scored more goals against Chelsea than any other side in his career.

Rashford has now scored against Chelsea five times, with four of those having come this season.

United will find out who have in the next round of the Carabao Cup tomorrow.

Along with United still left in the competition are Premier League sides Everton, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Leicester City and Liverpool, as well as League One side Oxford United and League Two side Colchester United.
