Valtteri Bottas suffered a huge shunt into the wall on the final corner of his flying lap in Q3 of the Mexican Grand Prix qualifying session.
Mercedes weren’t expected to be big contenders in qualifying at the Mexican Grand Prix with Ferrari showing pace all weekend.
Red Bull too have proved they’re quick around Mexico City previously, with Verstappen winning there the last two years.
And that stood true through the first set of flying laps in Q3 with Bottas sitting sixth and Lewis Hamilton in fourth.
Still, the Mercedes duo looked set to put in faster laps during the second run while they’re competitors were struggling to improve.
