Iran minister launches furious attack on ‘hostile’ Trump as he snubs meeting in Washington

Farhad Dejpasand had been scheduled to attend the annual gathering of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in October. Ahead of that trip, however, Mr Dejpasand has revealed he will not attend the meeting held in Washington due to the US’s decision to reject visas to members of his delegation.

Hitting out at the US, Mr Dejpasand insisted that Washington had created “ungrounded obstacles”.

Moreover, he stated the US had instituted, “illegal, unprecedented and hostile” on Iran, according to the country’s state media.

In support of Mr Dejpasand, president of the National Iranian American Council, Jamal Abdi, told The Independent, that under Trump, the US’s role as a global leader is diminishing.

Mr Abdi said: “The Trump administration is denigrating the US role as a global leader with petty moves like this one that violate international norms and subsume multilateral institutions in the ideological policies of the current White House occupant.”

Furthermore, Mr Abdi also claimed that Trump is instituting a policy of “maximum pressure”, which in his view, is failing.

Mr Abdi also added: “Similarly, Trump’s Muslim travel ban is not supposed to apply to students, yet Iranian students are being denied or having their visas revoked.

“This is what a policy of broad, indiscriminate pressure yields.

“There is no room for nuance.”

JUST IN: ‘There will be consequences’ warns Iran after tanker hit by missiles

Recently, an Iranian oil tanker was struck in what some called a suspected terrorist act.

Two rockets hit the tanker which belonged to the National Iranian Oil Company.

The attack occurred 60 miles from the port city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

The perpetrator for the attack has, as of yet, not been determined.

Prior to the attack, Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Zarif had warned of “all out war” if the US or its ally, Saudia Arabia, conducted military strikes against his country.

Following the explosive remarks, Saudi Arabia has insisted appeasement will not work with the Islamic Republic.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State Adel al-Jubeir said: “We think that appeasement doesn’t work.

“Actions count, not words. Members of the Iranian government talk, but have no power.

“Those who have, like the Revolutionary Guard, don’t want to negotiate.”

As far as we’re concerned, maximum pressure is the only way.”
