How did Golden Retriever give birth to green puppy? What is rare condition that caused it?

A dog owner from Wermelskirchen, in northern Germany, was left shocked when one of her dogs nine puppies was born with a green tinge to its fur. Joanna Justice, 43, discovered the puppy, was a different colour to its siblings after it was born.

The Golden Retriever appears to have colouring very different from the rest of the litter.

The adorable puppy laid next to its siblings definitely has a green hue.

In a tribute to its unique colouring, she has named the puppy Mojito after the mint flavoured rum cocktail.

She said: “I was very worried at first when he was born. But we are pleased all nine puppies are well.”

Amniotic fluid is what surrounds the puppies in their mother’s womb, and when biliverdin mixes in, it can stain the puppy’s coat.

Mr Dimitriadis said: “The green hair will grow out and it will go back to normal.”

Apart from its odd coloured coat, the puppy is perfectly normal.

Other cases of green puppies have also been recorded, with one happening earlier this month.

Ms Williams first thought the puppy had dark hair, however, later realised it was in fact green.

She explained: “It was dark. So I finally got out my phone flashlight — and she was green!”

Another Golden Retriever also gave birth to a green puppy in 2017, in Scotland.

The unique puppy was named Forest and shocked dog owner Louise Sutherland.
