Cheryl, 36, and Liam Payne, 26, called time on their romance in July last year. In spite of their split, the former couple seemed to have made an effort to remain amicable in order to co-parent their two-year-old son Bear. However, Cheryl is reportedly “furious” with her ex following his comments about their relationship on the Table Manners With Jessie Ware podcast. The former One Direction band member said they were under “so much pressure” due to their relationship being in the public eye.
Liam said the pair “rubbed off on each other in a bad way” when they were together.
He went on to divulge: “If you were going out somewhere, it would take so long to get out of the door ’cause you’re so worried about what that shot’s going to look like.
“All of that stuff put so much pressure on the relationship.”(sic)
Liam then accused the ex-Girls Aloud singer of being “strict” towards him and Bear.
He explained: “She surprises me. Sometimes I’m like, ‘Woah!’
“I’ve been on the receiving end of [her strictness] quite a lot.”
Cheryl is said to be less than impressed with Liam’s explanation of why their romance ended.
According to new! Magazine, an insider revealed: “She feels Liam is being really unfair painting her as a controlling figure in his life.
“She admits she was very clear about what she expected from Liam during the relationship, and even after it, because she felt she had a right to expect certain behaviours from him for the sake of bringing up a child as a united force.
“But she never bullied him or tried to stifle his ambitions.”
The source also detailed Cheryl’s feelings about Liam’s comments about his new relationship with model Maya Henry, 19.
He admitted: “My life’s been quite normal recently, which has been a break. It’s good. I’m enjoying myself right now.”
In reference to this statement, the insider continued: “Cheryl feels like she is being made the scapegoat for any of Liam’s unfulfilled ambitions and that he’s using their relationship as a way to justify that.
“She’s really upset because the one thing she has always shown Liam is loyalty and all she wanted was the same back.”
Elsewhere, Liam recently revealed he doesn’t see his son for weeks at a time as a result of work commitments.
During an interview on The One Show, he said: “It is difficult being on the road, going out and promo-ing. It has been hard to get home and see him. Loads of random things happen with kids all the time. Like if he’s not very well, sometimes you miss dates and things. Then a couple of weeks go by, and I haven’t seen him in ages.
“It hurts, I do want to go out on tour, I’m just going to have to figure out the schedule properly.”
