Ballon d'Or 2019 shortlist LIVE: Updates with Van Dijk, Messi and Ronaldo aiming for prize

France Football will announce their 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist on Monday.

Virgil van Dijk, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are in the running to land the prestigious prize.

Liverpool centre-back Van Dijk is the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or after a fine season under Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutch defender guided Liverpool to a Champions League triumph, as well as helping the Reds push Manchester City in the Premier League.

Van Dijk was named UEFA’s Player of the Year in August, with Messi winning FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player in September.

France Football get the ball rolling on the Ballon d’Or on Monday ahead of the ceremony in December.

However, a date or venue have not been confirmed as of yet.

Mane on who he’d vote for

Many expect Van Dijk to scoop the prize later this year.

However, the Dutch star’s Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane has revealed he’d vote for Messi over the defender.

“Yes, for sure [he’d vote for Messi]…after Virgil,” Mane said.

“No, Virgil is a great, great player but sorry Virgil, it has to be Messi before you.”
