Rafael Nadal wedding: Why is Roger Federer not attending Spaniard’s ceremony

Roger Federer will not be at his good friend Rafael Nadal’s wedding this afternoon.

The Swiss star claimed last month that he did not even know when the ceremony was taking place.

Nadal and Federer have been rivals for the duration of their tennis careers but have recently become very close friends.

The pair were extremely close at this year’s Laver Cup and were rarely spotted apart.

However, Federer has not been invited to the world No 2’s wedding with Xisca Perello, despite early suggestions he would be.

“You should understand you cannot believe everything that appears on the reports,” Federer said last month.

“I do not know anything about it. And I have a plan for the weekend before the Basel tournament.”

Nadal’s fellow Spanish players Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco are expected to be in attendance.

The 19-time Grand Slam winner’s uncle Toni, and coaches Francis Roig and Carlos Moya, will also be at the memorable event.

Ex-Barcelona midfielder Miguel Angel Nadal will also watch his nephew tie the knot with his childhood sweetheart.

Nadal and Perello have been together for 15 years and will walk down the isle at the luxurious estate of La Fortaleza in Majorca.

Michelin-starred Majorcan chef Macarena de Castro is in charge of feeding the 350 guests.

Tomeu Catala has been named as the priest and he told island paper Diario de Mallorca earlier this month: “Everyone of the weddings I have been involved in has been special and this one will be the same.

“I am just going to marry two people who love each other.”
