Flights: Passenger journey ruined by smelly surprise from an overhead locker

Plane travel is one of the most common methods of travel around the world. In fact, according to the IATA, as of 2017 the estimated number of commercial flights taking off daily is 36.8 million. With so many people travelling passenger etiquette should be a top priority, however, it seems some still struggle with the dos and don’ts of air travel. One flyer recently took to social media to express his dismay after ending up in a stinky situation thanks to his seatmate.

The male traveller posted an image and accompanying text relaying his anecdote about a particularly unfortunate incident on board his flight.

The image was then recirculated on Instagram account @PassengerShaming where it has received 1,025 comments to date.

The image itself shows the man’s lap as he is sat in his seat, which appears to be in an economy row.

A wet patch appears to have formed on the man’s left thigh, his beige shorts damped by something unexpected dripping onto him from above.

While the picture itself tells little, the man’s accompanying text is where the real story lies

He explains: “This is what happens when some dude brings a cooler bag FULL OF SHRIMP and puts it into the overhead bin on your airplane…directly over your head…

“its starts leaking on you. And it smells terrible. And you have to go back to the gate so they can clean it up.

“Who the flip brings a cooler bag of shrimp on a plane?” (SIC)

The man goes on to explain what happened next, including the culprit’s hilarious response.

“His response: ‘Sorry, it’s just shrimp. It’s good food’

“#areyoukidding #nothappy #newseat #rowtomyself”

The man was moved to a new seat, although he points out neither of his accompanying children would move with him and so he ended up having a row to himself.

Instagram users have flocked to the comments to react to this stinky ordeal.

One wrote: “The literal smell of shrimp will close my throat people really need to start being more considerate.”

Another said: “I’m not easily grossed out by stuff but this is legit… gross.”

In fact, the smell of shrimp seems to be a deal-breaker for many air travellers.

A commenter stated: “I would rather be on a flight with a screaming baby than deal with that nastiness.”

Others were confused about the logistics of the fish making it onboard in the first place: “How the HELL did a cooler full of shrimp get into the cabin when you can’t bring 110 ml of facecream??”

There was one person who saw the funny side, begging the question: “was there cocktail sauce tho”

It seems the shrimp transporter isn’t the only one though, with one user saying: “My in laws bring frozen shrimp up from Florida every time they come to NJ.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only incident of a plane passenger disrupting the flight of those around them.

On another recent flight travellers were left disgusted at the mess one passenger left behind in the bathroom.

An image went viral of the state the small room was left in.

Commenters in their masses expressed outrage with one even saying the guilty party should be “banned from flying”.

The image shows a bathroom strewn with ripped up toilet paper and garbage spilling out of the sink.
