Danny John-Jules: ‘Gloves are off’ Strictly star set to expose all about time on show

Last year, Strictly Come Dancing star Danny John-Jules, 59, was hit by claims he was bullying his dance partner Amy Dowden, 28, which they both denied.

However at the time of the show, a Strictly source told Express.co.uk the pair did have a minor dispute in rehearsals, which they resolved swiftly.

Speaking to Express.co.uk at the Best Heroes Awards, the dancer said the “gloves are off” as he confirmed his upcoming tell-all book.

When quizzed on his thoughts about the alleged bullying claims, he said: “The only bullying I heard about that show wasn’t my name.

“I was reading about other names before I got there.

“I tell you what I have got, I’ve got every single text message between me and Amy from before I did the show and after.

“My conscious is clear as I said on my very first interview.

“I’m too much of a gentleman to try and clear my name for somebody else but do you know what, I’m doing an autobiography next year… I’m 60 next year.

“And you see when I write that, the gloves are off and then we will see who’s talking.

“Because remember when you say stuff like, ‘Our source backstage and our BBC sources,’ remember I am one of those sources too.”

He added: “They better be careful. I’m going to do it in the right forum.”

Despite claims of Danny and Amy clashing backstage, The Death In Paradise star star insisted they had a good professional relationship.

“I miss dancing with her, yeah,” he added. “We didn’t have that kind of relationship, she went home to her fiancé and I went home to my mrs.”

But away from the cameras, The Red Dwarf star went on to say that he often treated Amy to “nice things”.

He added: “I took her out to some nice places and I got her some nice things through my sponsors, took her to the nail shop.

“It was all over social media, didn’t they talk about that? Oh deary me. I know what the game is, I’ve been in it for 40 years.”

On dancing together, he added: “Amy taught me everything I did, I never had any input into the dancing.”

As a whole, the actor said he doesn’t miss the show and no longer watches it as he is focusing on his own show It’s Got To Be Me.

He added: “I’m busy, I’ve got a career I don’t sit at home to watch other people’s careers.

“I’m over every job… I walk out the door, I don’t take my job home with me.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues this weekend at 6.40pm on BBC One.
