Batman cast: Who is in the cast of The Batman? HUGE star cast as Catwoman

The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, is set to relaunch the character of Bruce Wayne in the DC Extended Universe. Various stars have already signed on, with other in negotiations to be a part of the movie. But one megastar has signed on to play Catwoman, leaving fans desperate to find out more.

Who is in the cast of The Batman?

Robert Pattinson will play the leading role, after Nicholas Hoult was also tested for the character.

Pattinson’s casting was leaked, much to his dismay, but he spoke out about he excited and baffled he was to have been cast.

Speaking to Esquire, Pattinson said: “It’s kind of insane. I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect.

“I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all.”

He has also teased the movie will have an “interesting direction,” telling Variety: “I really like [director] Matt Reeves and his setup for it.

“It’s an interesting direction. It’s something from the comics which hasn’t really been explored yet. It’s crazy shoes to fill.

“It’s interesting the different directions you can take with it and that the, in some ways, quite a specific character actually has a lot of leeway.

“When you look at the different tones of the movies and TV shows, you can do quite a lot with it.”

Pattinson’s casting came after Ben Affleck, who played Batman in Justice League and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, left the project.

Other than Pattinson, the only other name confirmed to be in the cast is Zoe Kravitz, who will play the role of Catwoman.

Kravitz has already voiced the role of Catwoman once before – in The Lego Batman Movie – but will be stepping into some big shoes in this role.

The devilish cat burglar, who is often a romantic figure for Batman, has been played by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether and Eartha Kitt in the 1960s TV show, before she had a big screen outing, played by Michelle Pfeiffer.

In recent memory, Halle Berry played Catwoman in a solo feature, which did not go down too well with fans, before Anne Hathaway portrayed her in The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

Hopefully, Kravitz can remind fans of the formidable woman Selina Kyle really is.

In talks to potentially join the cast is Jeffrey Wright, who may be planning to step into Gary Oldman’s shoes as Commissioner Gordon.

Along with him, Jonah Hill has been reported to be in talks to play a villain, but which villain has not yet been specified.

Reports suggest he will play either Penguin or The Riddler, both of whom have been portrayed on screen in various films.

Penguin was the main villain in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, where Oswald Cobblepot was portrayed by Danny DeVito alongside Pfeiffer’s Catwoman.

The Riddler was portrayed by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever, in a somewhat more campy and outrageous manner than any of Burton’s villains.

At present, there is no more news for casting on The Batman, but it seems likely we will be hearing about more villains as time goes on.

The Batman is scheduled for release in 2021
