Nebraska and Illinois will open their 2021 seasons in Dublin, Ireland.

The teams jointly announced the overseas Big Ten clash on Monday. The Huskers and Illini will play Aug. 28, 2021, at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Notre Dame and Navy will meet there next fall.

Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman said the game was almost two years in the making, and he’s delighted his team can participate.

“This game will provide an incredible educational opportunity for our football student-athletes who, because of their schedule, generally do not receive the same international experiences as many of our other student-athletes,” he said.

The game originally was scheduled to be played Nov. 13, 2021, in Champaign, Ill.
