Outlander season 5: 'It's unfortunate' Claire Fraser star reveals regret over new series

Outlander season five will pick up after the birth of Brianna’s (played by Sophie Skelton) baby Jemmy and reunion with Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin). Roger was taken by the Mohawk and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his wife Claire went off to rescue him. However, it seems the Native Americans won’t be included as much in the new series.

Speaking about season four and the upcoming run, Caitriona explained it’s ”unfortunate” they don’t feature as much.

“I think in general, episode 13 because of all of the Native American, I think that was such a cool element to our show,” she told SYFY Wire at New York Comic Con.

“It was so beautiful to tell that time in American history.

“It’s unfortunate we don’t have as many elements of that this time, I think it was just so rich and so beautiful, it just added another element to the show that we didn’t have before. So that’s special for that reason.”

Co-star Sam added: “Yeah the Native American side of it for me as well is just so fun to play and we have these fantastic cast that came over from Canada and brought their own culture and their own life to it.

“For me, it was really the scene with Willie when he saves Jamie from the Native Americans.

“For me it was really interesting point where you see him being Jamie’s son.”

While the Fraser family may not be involved with the Cherokee or Mohawk this season, they will be preparing for the Revolutionary War.

The trailer for season five, which was released at the weekend, certainly hinted the family would be split up.

Jamie and Claire can be seen promising each other they’ll do what they must to protect one another.

Claire even hints she will return to the future with their daughter Brianna where it is “safer”.

However, there were hints the whole family could time travel.

When at Craigh Na Dun, only Brianna, Claire and Roger have been able to hear the buzzing of the stones.

However, Roger found a new set of stones in the forest while travelling with the Mohawk.

Could he lead the family back so they can head home and avoid the Revolutionary War?

Fans only have a few months left to wait to see how the drama all unfolds.

Outlander returns February 16 on STARZ and Amazon Prime Video.
